Residential Structure Fire with Rescue

Turlock – The Turlock City Fire Department responded to a working residential structure fire on the 700 block of Montana Avenue on May 30, 2019 at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews found a residence consumed with smoke in the incipient stage. Turlock City Firefighters took quick action, making an initial interior fire attack while simultaneously conducting search and rescue during which firefighters came upon an adult male victim in the kitchen. The victim was immediately removed from the residence, assessed by crews, and was then transferred to AMR for transport to a local hospital. Two family dogs, Cinnamon and Bones, were also located and cared for until additional family members arrived to assume responsibility. Cinnamon and Bones were not harmed in the fire.
Fire crews inside continued to extinguish the fire. With assistance from additional crews on the roof, overhead ventilation was provided allowing the heated gases to exit the building while fire attack was executed.
Chief of Department Robert Talloni stated, “Quick response time and aggressive firefighters saved a male occupant from an untimely death.”
Turlock Fire Department responded to the incident with three engines, Squad 32, one battalion chief, one fire investigator, and the Chief of the Department for a total of 15 personnel. The Ceres Fire Department responded to the incident with one engine and one battalion chief as part of a resource sharing agreement. AMR, T.I.D. and PG&E also responded and provided support to this incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Any information regarding the investigation should be directed to Fire Investigator Jason Bernard at jbernard@turlock.ca.us.
