***PRESS RELEASE***

MUNICIPAL CODE ENFORCEMENT AT BROADWAY PARK

Turlock – On January 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., Turlock City Fire Department’s Neighborhood Services Division conducted a Municipal Code enforcement operation at Broadway Park with the assistance of the Turlock Police Department, City of Turlock Parks & Recreation Department, and Turlock Scavenger Company.

Neighborhood Services Code Enforcement staff were enforcing Turlock Municipal Code 5-20-03 and 5-20-04 which address illegal storage of personal property in public places. Multiple departments within the City of Turlock have received numerous complaints regarding the condition of Broadway Park and the amount of personal property being stored there. The purpose of the enforcement was not to remove people from Broadway Park, but to remove stored personal property from the city park in accordance with the Turlock Municipal Code. In addition to the personal property which was removed for storage, city staff collected and disposed of 1.13 tons of refuse and debris.

Yesterday Neighborhood Services Code Enforcement staff posted multiple notices throughout Broadway Park and on all stored personal property within the park which provided a 24 hour time period for personal property to be voluntarily removed from the area.

Broadway Park has become a location for the collection of stored personal property which not only violates the TMC, but has created a public nuisance for surrounding residents, businesses, and park visitors. Neighborhood Services code enforcement staff will continue their efforts to enforce Turlock Municipal codes in all city parks and other applicable public areas allowing them to be enjoyed by the community.

City of Turlock Parks and Recreation Director identified three areas within the park which have been temporarily closed for maintenance due to vandalism and necessary repairs. These repairs will be made on Thursday, January 10, 2019 and will reopen once they are completed.

The City of Turlock has been working with many different local agencies over the past several months to assist and offer a variety of services to people at Broadway Park. The Turlock Gospel Mission has opened an overnight warming shelter from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. every night to provide people with a warm and safe place to be out of the weather. This is in addition to their Day Center which is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

The unlawfully stored personal property that was removed will be stored by the City of Turlock for ninety (90) days in accordance with the Turlock Municipal Code. Anyone wanting to reclaim personal property can contact the Turlock Fire Department’s Neighborhood Services Division at 209-664-7348.

Any questions regarding this Turlock Municipal Code enforcement should be directed to Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209 669-2119 or mgomez@turlock.ca.us.

MUNICIPAL CODE ENFORCEMENT AT BROADWAY PARK

On January 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., Turlock City Fire Department’s Neighborhood Services Division will conduct Municipal Code Enforcement at Broadway Park with the assistance of the Turlock Police Department and City of Turlock Parks & Recreation Department.
Today, January 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Neighborhood Services Code Enforcement staff posted multiple notices throughout Broadway Park and on all stored personal property within the park citing Turlock Municipal Code (TMC) 5-20-03 and 5-20-04, which addresses illegal storage of personal property in public places. This TMC provides a 24 hour time period for personal property to be voluntarily removed from the area.
A similar action took place on November 27, 2018 resulting in the removal of all personal property illegally stored within Broadway Park. Since that time, Broadway Park continues to be a location for the collection of stored personal property which not only violates the TMC, but has created a public nuisance for surrounding residents, businesses, and park visitors. The purpose of this enforcement is to address the issue of illegally stored personal property and not to remove any individuals from the park.
