Microchips
With a micro-chip, your pet can be identified in a manner of minutes.
Placing a microchip in the shoulder area of your pet is painless and could possibly save its life. The chip is
smaller than a grain of rice and is inserted by an injection, just like your pet receiving a shot. All pets that are brought into the shelter are scanned when they arrive and prior to euthanasia.
A microchip is not in lieu of a license.
Where can I purchase a micro-chip?
You can purchase a microchip from most veterinary offices or at the Turlock Animal Shelter. Your information is kept in a local database for retrieval by any agency that may impound your pet. You also have the option of placing your pet in a national database. This is great for pets that travel with their owners.
The microchip is inserted one time and will remain in your pet forever. In the City of Turlock it is mandatory for any animal that has bitten be inserted with a microchip to track potentially dangerous dogs. (TMC 6-1-312)
How much does it cost?
The cost to insert a microchip and maintain the local database is $15.00, at the City of Turlock Animal Shelter. Prices may vary at your local veterinarian office.
